Working Capital Controller

I am delighted to be partnered with an established global Law firm in their search for a Working Capital Controller to join their London office. Joining an innovative and global law firm, this is an excellent opportunity in legal finance.

Day duties of the role:

  • Prepare and process bills to ensure time and disbursements are accurately charged and allocated.
  • Prepare and process e-bills, ensuring accurate charges and allocation, and clear rejected e-bills.
  • Thoroughly check bills before sending them to partners and clients.
  • Draft narrative in support of bills and prepare monthly and quarterly bills for clients.
  • Maintain billing profiles with regular updates to provide accurate estimates.
  • Comprehensive follow-up of action items, including time transfer, time write-off, dispatch of billing guides, disbursements, and queries.
  • Meet with partners at least monthly to review current matters, ensure pledged bills materialize, and address credit control issues.
  • Keep partners and clients informed on a daily/weekly basis about fee accruals.
  • Promote and create the use of the Pricing Model, providing support and assistance to partners and associates.
  • Provide technical 3E support to Legal PAs if required.
  • Liaise with SSC Teams in Belfast (Revenue, eBilling, and Credit Control) and participate in relevant meetings.
  • Manage Working Capital Lock Up Days by regularly reviewing WIP and debtor lock-up days, monitoring billing/write-off trigger points, and flagging debtor issues to partners.
  • Work closely with partners on credit control issues to unlock debts quickly, influence partners to allow normal debt-chasing processes, and highlight queries or disputes requiring partner intervention.
  • Ensure all financial aspects of new matter set-ups are correctly completed.

The right candidate will have:

  • Essential experience in a Finance function; working capital experience beneficial.
  • Quickly assimilates information and applies key compliance functions (SRA Accounts Rules, sales taxes, VAT).
  • Professional, responsive, and effective in building relationships.
  • Active team player who supports and engages with others.
  • Shares knowledge, provides, and accepts feedback.
  • Excellent communicator, listens, and values other opinions.
  • Delivers tasks professionally and organized with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work under pressure and multitask to meet deadlines.
  • Committed to maintaining established processes and systems.
  • Experience with legal practice management systems is beneficial.
