Indirect Tax Manager

A Top 10 Accountancy Practice are seeking a Manager to join their growing department. This client-focused role requires excellent technical skills and the ability to explain complex VAT information to non-experts. They are looking for a generalist with experience in NFP, REC, Corporate Finance, Media, and international sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide VAT advisory services, occasionally supporting compliance functions.
  • Review VAT returns and assumptions prepared by compliance specialists.
  • Manage a client portfolio, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
  • Work on a variety of VAT issues, with a focus on property and NFP sectors.
  • Collaborate with VAT Managers/Directors on advisory and consultancy projects.
  • Take ownership of smaller projects and work independently with clients.
  • Handle internal questions and referrals, managing internal clients effectively.
  • Research technical points and suggest tax planning ideas.
  • Interact with HMRC and understand departmental procedures.
  • Maintain broad technical skills and manage risk.
  • Understand budgets and billing; experience in sales is beneficial.

Skills & Expertise:

  • Manage client VAT relationships across various industries.
  • Advise on international services and property issues.
  • Review contracts and provide VAT advice.
  • Handle HMRC issues, from registrations to disputes.
  • Assist senior team members on complex projects.
  • Develop partial exemption methods and business apportionments.
  • Conduct VAT reviews and inspections.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns, and manage VAT registrations/de-registrations.
  • Foster internal relations and prepare marketing materials.
  • Attend client gatherings, seminars, and social activities to build relationships.
