Financial Controller
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations of the firm, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the firm's growth. This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
This role will have no direct reports and will work very closely, supporting the Finance Director with global financial compliance and strategic opportunities at the firm. As a result, they are looking for a technically strong accountant, ideally with international experience working for a law firm or wider professional services firm. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to take on their first Financial Controller role with room still to grow and develop.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Responsibility for preparation of annual LLP group and subsidiary (including overseas entities) financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
- Lead the annual group and subsidiary audits and statutory accounts preparation with responsibility for all supporting schedules and group consolidation in accordance with audit timetable.
- Key point of contact with UK and overseas accountants.
- Assist in the maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.
- Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations and oversees reconciliation of various general ledger control accounts.
- Support the Finance Director in developing long-term financial strategies to support the firm's growth.
- Develop a strong understanding of the group structure of the Firm and assist with annual filings and compliance related to the group
- Provide financial analysis and insights for strategic projects, mergers, and acquisitions.
- Support new office openings and/or new business streams helping to integrate them into the global operations of the firm.
- Assist in ensuring the internal control environment is strong, reviewing current processes and procedures and recommending improvements, leveraging technology where possible
- Oversee the financial system monthly balancing reports.
- Assist in the management and development of current systems used to support the accounting needs and financial reporting function on a day-to-day basis.
- Review of the monthly UK and overseas payroll with a view to authorisation and ensure control over salaries and deductions.
- Support HR and Tax team with payroll related queries.
- Liaise closely with the Financial control team, including on partnership and tax matters.
- Key point of contact with banks and oversee quarterly bank covenant calculations and submission to the banks.
- Support with banking facilities including preparation of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow forecasts.
- Assisting with annual budget and forecast process during the year, developing an understanding of the annual budget and forecast process and considering process improvements.
- Assisting with monthly management accounts review.
Experience needed:
- ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- Experience within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK GAAP.
- Experience of overseas accounting standards is desirable.
- Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel skills. Elite 3e knowledge would be an advantage.
