Audit Manager NFP

Audit Manager - NFP/Charity Team
Ambition is working with a leading mid-tier firm looking to hire an Audit Manager for their NFP team.

The team is large enough to have the resources to service their clients but small enough to focus on what is most important: caring about their clients. The team fosters a collaborative environment that emphasises improvement over criticism. You will be encouraged to dive in at the deep end, ensuring constant development and preparation for the next step in your career.

The team boasts notable clients in the charity and education sectors and has been tendering and winning more, resulting in a 30% growth in the past year and around 25% in recent years. This bodes well for anyone with ambitions to progress to Senior Manager, Director, and Partner in the future. The firm has quarterly promotion cycles, so when an opportunity arises and you are ready, you won't have to wait long.

The team environment is inclusive and welcomes people of all backgrounds and personalities. As long as you have a passion for Not For Profit, you will fit in. The team is friendly and often gets together for lunch, and you will have the chance to meet other managers from the NFP in other offices across the country. Non-chargeable time is valued just as much as chargeable time, and you will have the opportunity to get involved in other areas such as networking or technical work.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing a portfolio of not-for-profit clients
  • Organising, overseeing, and evaluating client engagements
  • Conducting preliminary meetings with clients
  • Creating a time budget for each project
  • Reviewing all received work promptly, addressing any issues with the audit staff
  • Ensuring files are complete and that the audit or accounts work is sufficient for the Partner to form an opinion on the accounts, balancing cost and benefit
  • Monitoring WIP on all jobs within the portfolio, promptly communicating any potential problems and write-offs to the Partner
  • Accurately recording all hours worked on any client to reflect the true profitability of the job
  • Preparing fee schedules and bills for Partner review and approval, explaining any additional charges and identifying any write-offs or profits
  • Drafting all management letters, finalising accounts, and letters of engagement
  • Attending client meetings (where appropriate)
  • Ensuring trainees are allocated a variety of jobs to maximise their experience
  • Completing 6-monthly appraisals and signing off training records
  • Dealing with day-to-day staff issues
  • Identifying opportunities for additional services
  • Identifying new target clients through networking, marketing, and referrals
  • Ad-hoc project work, which could include compliance or value-added services
  • Being involved in tenders
  • Setting the budgets

Ideal Candidate:

  • Passion for the sector is a must!
  • Good understanding of the NFP sector and SORP, with experience with charities £10m+
  • Experience managing teams of 3-5 people
  • ACA ICAEW, ACCA, or equivalent qualified
  • Must have the right to work as sponsorship cannot be provided
