Hiring trends in Legal Finance- April 2025

Back to Blogs

As we wrap up Q1, it’s clear that 2025 is off to a strong start. The legal finance space is buzzing with energy, and we’ve seen some exciting trends continue to unfold across both commercial and operational finance. There’s been a real push from law firms to build high-performing finance teams, and it’s creating some fantastic opportunities.

Commercial Finance

There’s a continued surge in commercial finance hiring, with firms particularly focused on bringing in experienced Management Accountants and Finance Business Partners. These roles are central to driving profitability and providing strategic support to senior stakeholders. As firms sharpen their focus on performance and growth, professionals who can bridge finance and business strategy are in high demand.

Finance Operations

Operational roles remain active, especially within revenue control, credit control, and accounts payable. Revenue Controller positions, in particular, have been busy, though it’s important to remember that the scope of these roles can vary greatly between firms. Some focus more on WIP, others lean into billing or credit—every firm structures their team differently, making each opportunity unique.

Interim Market

While the contract market has been slightly quieter, we’ve seen some interesting roles come through—ranging from finance systems and data projects to classic AP and cashiering positions. Many clients are planning to scale up hiring in Q2, especially for project-based needs. Contract lengths vary, with some short-term roles and others extending to 12–18 months.

Regional Trends

Outside of London, the regional legal finance market is just as lively. There’s a steady demand for experienced Finance Business Partners and Credit Controllers as firms look to strengthen their cash management functions. Building robust credit control teams is a key focus, and March is shaping up to be a strong hiring month across the regions.

Looking Ahead

With many firms finalising budgets and headcount plans for the year, we expect to see a fresh wave of hiring into April and May. Whether you’re actively job hunting or just curious about the market, it’s a great time to explore your options.

If you'd like a conversation about roles in revenue, credit, accounts payable, management accounting, finance systems, or business partnering—whether permanent or interim—our team would love to hear from you.
