'Welcome back to Commonly Asked Questions. The next topic I wanna tackle, question we get asked a lot is what should I be paying for a role like this? So if you're an employer and you're doing some salary benchmarking or you're recruiting a position very often we get asked what should we pay. Well first thing you can do is absolutely look at our salary guides that we regularly update at least every six months.

So click the links in in the comments below that I'll post and look at the salary guides that were posted across all of our disciplines, not just in audit accounts or tax, but actually across the entirety of the business.

But here's the second thing, and perhaps maybe the more controversial thing, and I'd really be interested in hearing your comments. I would argue that rather than worry about the market rate, think about what value the person that you're interviewing could actually give to your business.

If a candidate wants a certain salary and you think they are the best candidate for that job, provided it is not absolutely astronomical, pay what that candidate is looking for, not what you think the candidate is worth. Because if they're good enough to offer, the salary should follow with their requirements, not always necessarily what you think they are worth. That's a controversial one.

I welcome some of your thoughts on that. But that would be my advice. Thanks very much.'
